Preschool and Prep Age Program
- After assessing the physical development of a child we then ascertain whether we teach them the same skills a toddler may learn or take a more advanced skill development path.
- With this age group as indeed with any beginner child or adult the first skills they need to master is their breath control that is being able to hold their breath and go under the water.
- As with the toddlers we then teach them the water will always hold them up provided the hold their breath.
- If we are taking a more advanced skill path we then teach them how to do the correct kicking action and bring their arms out of the water so they can then by using a semicircular recovery place their hands back in the water in the correct position in order to complete the next stroke. This is why we need to assess a child’s physical capabilities to see if they are capable of using their legs and arms in a manner that will enable them learn how crawl stroke which is commonly know as freestyle. In other words and over the water recovery of the hands as opposed to an under water recover we teach the toddlers.
- Once your child has mastered the timing for a more formal looking stroke we teach them the correct breathing rhythm and then how to rotate their head to the side for a breath.
- As soon as this age group can demonstrate they can swim 6.25m and turn their head to the side for a breath, they progress to swimming 12.5m using the correct timing and breathing to the side.
